Prepare, prepare, prepare…can’t say it enough!
A little preparation goes a long way. You’ve always needed stuff like pens and notebooks for school, but now an organizer or planner (paper or electronic) is a lot more important because you’ll have a lot more going on. Buy one or ask your school counselor if they have one for you.
Keep track of schedules, assignments and tests for the day, week, month and semester.
What are your priorities? Do you understand that high school is important to your future? Make decisions that are best for YOU!
Highlight each item in your planner in one of three ways…either with a different color or a special mark next to each entry, such as A,B,C or 1,2,3.
- The first color or mark is for things you MUST do, like finish up a report due the next day.
- The second is for things that you SHOULD do, like study for a test that is next week.
- The third color is for things you WANT to do, like meet up with friends, volunteer at the Humane Society, etc.
If you get into a routine, life is a lot easier. Plan to do your homework at school either in class or in the Learning Zone so you don’t have to do it at home where there are a lot of other things going on. You’ll feel better about yourself and relieve some stress.
